what if you had an old timer coupe style (280zx) daily driver, but you needed something more practical; a wagon, maybe for once every so often, or for everyday use...

what would you choose?


i vote for a nissan stagea. ideally a 260rs would be awesome. a regular rs4s would do..


my missus was in this boat (though she actually bought her stagea rs4s (had to be manual. she wouldn't buy unless manual) already)
it's no preza STI wagon or an LS* GM-product, but it sure compares....



so yeah, pretty much, which wagon would you get. both if money is an issue and if money isn't one

I'd be pretty tempted by a Volvo XC70 Cross Country. About as close as a modern car gets to the Wally Wagon. Sure only an automatic, but it looks like a pretty sweet adventure vehicle.

Might try to find a preowned 328xi wagon with a stick shift, but those are pretty old now, with lots of miles.

The Japanese don't really have anything that fits the bill anymore - at least that I can think of. Quite a few decent 5 door hatches - like my 3. But no dedicated wagon.

I've sworn off VAG products - so no Audis or VW 's for me - though the VW Golf Sport wagon TSI would be pretty tempting.

If I had unlimited funds, and didn't need the wagon for practical uses, I'd be going for something like this.



The Ford Flex is about as close as you can come, nowadays. And it has precisely 0% of the charm. More reliable, though.

yeah, don't lower it, if you want to wallywagon it..... the missus lives on the end of a small stretch of unpaved road, and apparently in the setup in the picture has a tendency to be not very ideal...

If practicality is not the main purpose, I'd be tempted by a manual 3.2 V6 Alfa 159. Better looking than the Brera, AWD, and the interior in tan leather is sensational. Shit Aussie engine though and less space than any rival. But unlike the 156, at least the wagon has more capacity than the sedan!
