Speed / Power to Weight

Let's see who here wins the title of highest speed achieved compared to the power to weight of the car they achieved it in.

Probably need to stick to mph, hp and lbs for the purposes of the comparison.

I'm not really a top speed person, but for me I'd have to say:

My 94 Talon TSi.
~200hp
~2800 lbs
Somewhere between 135-140... allegedly.

Meh.

well, I've touched 185kmh in my 1.3 mazda 2
75hp
930kg

and 215 in a Daihatsu applause
105hp
1000kg

not converting to other units because 2am

these are the only ones that would matter

Fastest I've ever gotten a car is 110. Once in my parents' '98 Tiburon (shh!), once in the Stratus.

Tiburon 2,664 lbs, 140 hp.
Stratus 3,294 lbs, 200 hp.

When I still drove my Camaro, I used to bracket race whenever I could afford to go to the strip. Best I ever did was 00:12.87 @ 114 (wasn't stock ;) ). Problem is I don't know how much the car weighed. Stock, they're about 3400lbs., but I had a few things removed or replaced. For a conservative estimate, I'll say it was around 3300.
Edit: I know I've gone much faster than that, but either I never paid attention to just how fast I was going, or I can't remember; so that's pretty dumb of me.
The Cobalt's fuel cutoff is 105mph, so the story begins and ends there.

1997 Camaro Z28:
114mph/430-ish hp/3300lbs.

2005 Cobalt coupe:
105mph/145hp/3660lbs.

Got an 01 or 02 Lincoln ls v8 sport 280hp and 3900lbs to around 125mph. Got the ranger up to the limited 92. Haven't tried with the fiesta yet but it's just past the break in period.

One time I drove a Chevrolet Nova SS up to 365mph from a dead dig.

I got the Wally Wagon to 105.

2500 lbs, 100 hp (give or take). Stupidest thing I've done in car. That wagon was not meant for those speeds.

well, it's not like it's legal here... but the fine for doing 120 or 150mph is roughly the same anyway :)

I created this topic with the memory of hitting 110mph in my 96hp, 2046lb Civic. That score was beaten in the other thread (what reminded me of it) - similar speed and power in a 2200lb Sentra.

However, some of the faster speeds above in more powerful, heavier cars could actually score higher with this formula. Which made me think of a couple of other cars:

BMW 320i 2006ish - 115mph, 145hp, 2990lb
BMW 325i 2008ish - 135mph, 215hp, 3180lb
Toyota MR2 - 130mph, 300ish hp, 2750lb
Ford Mustang GT MY2012 - 150mph, 412hp, 3600lb

And back on light, low-powered cars, I generally cruised at 100mph on my first trip to Thailand. That was in a Honda City.

Now that I think about it I had a few Lincoln navigators which weigh 5562 lbs and have 300 hp up to over 100mph

1991 Honda CRX Si
108hp
2100lbs
120+ mph. Pretty sure I went faster than 120 but don't remember exactly.

1992 Eagle Talon TSI AWD
???hp
3100ish lb if I remember correctly.
143mph

2004 Mustang GT
260 hp
3500ish lbs
145mph

120+ a bunch of times in my forester xt.

Fair enough. Maybe I just wasn't in the right places.
