The biggest problem is as soon as you buy a house, something will inevitably come up that you've always wanted to do but now won't be able to.

I bought a place last year. All of a sudden they're rolling out a similar function to what I do in the Bristol, UK office. For the last few years I've wanted to work in that office, buy a cheap used exotic, drive it on the Welsh roads they showcase in Evo and then bring it back to Australia tax free (there's an exception for cars used by someone on a work visa) where it's worth at least twice the price...but I can't because I have a mortgage

well i'm not exactly blowing the budget out with this house, and it's in a desirable area so renting it out would not be out of the question.

Also, i think i'm committed to 5-10 years of automotive, then i think i'll have to get out for my sanity. I don't think i can enjoy the electric self driving car trend.

Well it's probably 5-10 years before my life becomes it. Likely 10-15 for consumers.

And I would do an electric car too, but it would be a second or third car. Right now if I had a Leaf it would just be the car and insurance I would have to pay for, charge at work for free.
