Having read several books on the subject, yes. Highly recommend "Into Thin Air" by John Krakauer.

Apparently there's a lot of human waste, and garbage up there too. Kind of disgusting what we're doing to that mountain.

you would think that a lot of the people that go up there would be like the nature / hippie types who wouldn't throw their trash on the ground

I've seen programs before about Everest and they talk about all the people who try to climb Everest and don't make it. They're supposed to leave them there as reminders/warnings/etc. about how dangerous this is. most if not all are frozen solid under thick encasings of ice, never to move or decay. They say there might be thousands long-buried deep under ice hundreds of years old. Pretty freaky stuff if you think about it.

I've researched quite heavily getting to Advanced Base Camp. The full climb to the top costs about $50k. Apparently a lot of the deaths are people who for whatever reason (sometimes arrogance, sometimes going mad through altitude sickness) stop listening to the people around them and do stupid things. Once you're up there its hard enough bringing yourself down, let alone anyone else.
