I kind of want to visit Cuba

Postby 1300zuk » Wed Apr 01, 2015 12:29 am

I want to go to Cuba and the alumni association has trip coming up and I asked about it. It's expensive and very planned out for retired baby boomers.

Any ideas how to visit Cuba that don't involve converting my Toyota into an amphibious vehicle?

Aren't they in the process of making visiting Cuba a lot easier? Don't know where that's out now, or if it fizzled.

In any case, I know a lot of Americans who visit Cuba, not sure how they do it, exactly but it's definitely possible.

I'm pretty sure most Americans who visit Cuba do so by going through another country that doesn't care. Like go from the U.S. to Venezuela and then to Cuba or something. The downside is that you have to basically hope that either (a) Cuba doesn't stamp your passport or (b) no one with the U.S. authorities notices. I tend to think it's not worth the risk, but I'm no authority on this and it's not like I have money to spend on travel anyway.

I thought they opened Cuba up for Americans to visit. Is this still an ongoing thing, or what?

Office of foreign assist controls

Basically you don't want to be on their list

Yeah, they're the guys that handle all the Cuban baseball stars that are coming over.

I'd rather not give them my money IMO.

I mean right after it was announced that relation with them would be normalized they went ahead and criticized us foreign policy and whatnot. It's clear they see this as a "I will take your money but I still feel the same way about you as I did 30 years ago". Wait until their economy gets stronger and they'll be a pain in the ass.
